SP3 for Windows XP

thanks for the info Justin, nice to hear that for people willing to stick to XP, Microsoft will still provide support during 7 years. As I read the article I found that other link about SP3 for XP, being delayed to 2008.
I personally would not advise to anyone to rely on that, not that I doubt that Microsoft will hold its promises, support will be there, and sp3 will be released. But who will want to count on an OS in 5 years from now, when 99% of software will be optimized for Windows Vista. Then as you might have already understood, my advice is, people if you can, upgrade to Vista, as soon as you can.

Hi Apache,

Windows XP will be supported by 3rd party developers in many years to come. They have to support systems that are still being widely used, as it will make them more money.

Currently I do not recommend upgrading to Vista as soon as possible. Let Microsoft release it and fix the bugs before upgrading. But while we are waiting, we have XP which is still a highly stable OS with all software support ;-).

It's not just a matter of money, but a matter of time. And I can't imagine a dev team sacrificing features, for the sake of XP, or making 2 versions of the same software. Of course many software will be compatible with XP in the years to come, as long as they don't require a Vista interface. And there would be also the risk of developing a program for XP that would not work on Vista. Why do you think dev teams all over the world are working as fast as they can to bring out new stuff for Vista: because the "old" programs, not all but many of them , the ones that we still use, are really good, but not compatible with Vista.
